Paving Grade Bitumen

Reliable paving-grade bitumen for Global Roads

Paving grade bitumen is a refined petroleum product used as a binder in hot mix asphalt (HMA) or Spray Sealing. It plays a critical role in delivering long-lasting, high-performance road surfaces by offering excellent binding, waterproofing, and durability under traffic loads and varying climates.

At Puma Bitumen, we supply a broad portfolio of paving grades to meet national specifications and local performance requirements — ensuring your roads stand the test of time.

Global Reach

Puma Bitumen operates a network of strategically positioned terminals, blending plants, and distribution hubs, enabling reliable and flexible supply of bituminous products to customers across 13+ markets worldwide.

From bulk shipping routes to containerised supply, our infrastructure is built to deliver high-quality bitumen and emulsions efficiently — wherever your project is located.

Whether it’s a major port, remote project site, or regional road network, our global logistics capability ensures on-time delivery, backed by local support and technical expertise.

Standard Binders for General Asphalt and Spray Sealing Applications

Standard Binders for Asphalt & Spray Sealing

Our straight grade binders are refined to consistent viscosity and penetration properties to suit a wide range of applications. These products are commonly used in:

  • Low to Medium Traffic in Dense-graded and open-graded asphalt

  • Residential and arterial roads

  • Conventional spray sealing (with or without cutter oil)

We supply:

Viscosity Grades (AS 2008) – used widely across Australia

C170 – Typical sealing binder in most climate conditions

C240, C320 – General-purpose asphalt and some sealing binders

C450, C600 – Higher stiffness for heavier traffic or warmer conditions

Penetration Grades –Aligned with EN 12591 and ASTM D946

Performance Grades (PG) – Used in countries where climate-resilient pavement design is essential

Grading Systems We Support

Puma Bitumen supplies a full range of paving-grade bitumen products that comply with the Australian Standard AS 2008, commonly referred to as Class Bitumen. This system grades bitumen based on its viscosity at 60°C, providing predictable handling, application, and long-term pavement performance.

Whether used in hot mix asphalt or sprayed sealing, our AS Class binders deliver consistency across Australia’s diverse climates and traffic conditions.

Grades we supply include C170, C240, C320, C450 and C600

Penetration Grade Bitumen is one of the most widely used bitumen types globally, particularly across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and parts of Asia. It is classified based on the depth a standard needle penetrates the bitumen sample under specific conditions — an indicator of hardness or softness.

Typical grades include 40/50, 60/70, 80/100, with the numbers representing the penetration range in tenths of a millimetre.

Performance Grade Bitumen, often referred to as PG bitumen, is used extensively in North America and parts of the Middle East. This grading system classifies bitumen based on its performance under a range of climatic and loading conditions, with designations such as PG 64-10PG 70-22, and PG 76-22.

The numbers reflect the high and low pavement temperatures (in °C) the binder is designed to withstand without failure.

Viscosity Grade Bitumen is commonly used in India and Southeast Asia. This classification measures the viscosity (thickness) of the bitumen at specified temperatures, providing a more accurate indication of how it behaves during mixing and laying compared to older penetration methods.

Typical grades include VG10, VG20, VG30, VG40, where higher numbers indicate higher viscosity and stiffness.
